Deirdre and Norman

Deirdre and Norman have been farming their land in Carney, Kildare organically since 1989. We’ve known them since 2008 when we first started to run the cafe in the co-op and have been meaning to go down to visit them pretty much since then. We finally managed the trip last week (always a pleasure to get out of the city on a really cold crisp sunny winter day).

We’ve set up weekly deliveries to the fumbally with whatever they have in season, this week we had the pleasure of some leeks, parsnips and some amazing cavolo nero. Hopefully some bok choi on the way next week and some sweet as hell beetroot.

Deirdre talks to her plants( and to the fairies, but thats another story). But when the farm still looks great in winter despite the mud, wet and lack of color then you know theres some good vibrations around the place.

We’re glad to be finally ┬ávisiting the suppliers we have been wanting to use since the beginning but just havn’t found the time. Now looking forward to bringing the rest of the kitchen down to have a sconce around the farm once the warmer seasons kick in.

  1. How incredibly inspiring. Do Norman and Deirdre homedeliver to the Dublin area? Or Newmarket perhaps? Big fans of the Fumbally. Thanks for all your hard work and tenacity!

    1. they don’t do home delivery, but they are at the co-op every saturday with their produce and extra organics that they import as well.
